The Yue Kiln Celadon is China's renowned ancient celadon. It is estimated to have commenced production in the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD). It boomed during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), the Five Dynasty (907-960 AD) and the Song Dynasty (960-1127 AD). Celadon production finally declined in the mid Northern Song Dynasty (1015-1070 AD) .

Yue Kiln Caledon were manufactured mainly in ShangYu, CiXi, YuYao of the Zhejiang Province. The making of Yue Kiln Celadon is a cultural treasure in terms of its regionality, uniqueness and rarity. The Imperial Yue Kiln Celadon was established in the Tang Dynasty. By the Song Dynasty, officials were appointed to supervise the making of Imperial wares to be used by the royal court.

From early on, Yue ware was exported to the Middle East. From the 8th to the 11th centuries, it was then exported to East Asia, South Asia and East Africa, including Japan and Korea. Yue ware evolved progressively into a true ceramic form and became a medium of artistic expression. It is considered one of the most successful and influential forms of all southern Chinese ceramics.

Because of the fall of the Southern Song Dynasty, the art of manufacturing Yue Kiln Caledon was lost for nearly a thousand years.
However, in early 1980, Ceramic Artist Chen Pengfei began painstakingly experimenting with the technique of Yue ware. After 40 years of work, he was able to recreate the lost art of Yue Kiln Caledon.

The US Asians Cultural Academy has enlisted Artist Chen Pengfei's Yue Kiln Caledon manufacturing art into its Asians Cultural Recording Plan. Chen's Yue ware is now part of the permanent collection of the Library of Congress and the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, forever enriching our civilization. Chen's Yue ware was also collected by the National Palace Museum, World Bank, Cultural Department of France, Yale University, and Zhejiang University, among other museums and universities.
